Primarily, I'm thinking seriously about finally giving in and making a Tomb Kings army. No matter how bad they are in 8th, they have a pretty cool thing going and a couple units I really love, so why fight it? Unfortunately as the fourth army I swore I'd never build I'm going to need to fund them by clearing out as much stockpile as possible, hence the two lists on the right. If I do this right, the BOUGHT side of things shouldn't overrun the SOLD side ...

Stay tuned.

+ WoT vs HE 2250, League Ender 2 of 4 +

Overview
--------
Location: Zombie Planet
Date played: Monday, April 05, 2010

High Elves
----------
General: B

Everybody else mobilizes, with the horsemen fading their flanks and both the dragon ogres and Pimp taking big risks and expecting to be shot / magiced. As usual, I ought to have played it a bit cooler with my mobile elements for a turn, but ah well ... Astoundingly the Pimp gets flicker off against the right bolter, 4 S4 killing one crew and wounding the machine. Sadly roar is out, and it's over for the elven opening volleys.

Turn 1 - High Elves
-------------------

The elves do a bit of cagey maneuvering - mostly the flanks turning in slowly, with the mages jumping around and the eagle flapping over to march block. Then the magical main event slams in with a +3 from the banner of sorcery, for a daunting 11 PD + ring of fury offense vs 3 DD + scroll. RoBI slams the Pimp for 1 wound (no eye vs non-magic missile), then a distillation is let through on the assumption that a 3/3+ save can soak those 2D6 S4 hits - naturally this isn't the case, and the one wound that hits him goes through both saves and takes the single most threatening model (with his scroll unused) off the table. The mage follows this up by cursing the dragon ogres, which absorb 12-18 bolt rounds and many many wounds in the following shooting phase, leaving one smashy, angry monster. Other fire is directed at either horsemen unit, with some damage done - his shooting dice were excellent all told. All in all, a brutal turn for chaos.

Turn 2 - Warriors of Tzeentch
-----------------------------

Big Blue trudges on! On the left the horsemen bait a charge from the chariot to protect the flank of the ogres - unlike the diagram, this would send the chariot either into a failed charge or a terror-checking charge into the hellcannon, not the ogres in either case. The stars began parting ways, while the the last drogre zipped to, if he lived, take out a damn bolter. No magic, no shooting, over for another round of reeming.

Turn 2 - High Elves
-------------------

The tiranoc charges the horsemen, but opts not to try for an EitW into the hellcannon. Other cagey movement mostly preps the center for the incoming 'stars, while continuing to move the flanks in. With the archmage out of LoS magic is somewhat subdued, but 2DD can't stop the last dragon from being cursed with arrow magnetism once more. He is shot many times and dies a lot. Likewise the right horsemen, and a fantastic single shot from the NW bolter skewers an ogre and puts 1-2 wounds on the brute next to him. All panics are passed, but not sad checks :'(

Turn 3 - Warriors of Tzeentch
-----------------------------

Rather than moving the chaos lord to the corner of the warstar and accepting that there's no way five dragon princes in the flank will do anything, I move the Baron out of his unit to block the DP, and I also realize that he can probably kill the swordmasters on his own too. This would prove to be a brutal bit of hubris ... Meanwhile, the 'stars near striking distance, big and medium gribblies struggle whilst marchblocked and the horsemen rally (but don't move, as I forgot about the fast cav bait dealy).

Turn 3 - High Elves
-------------------

No charges - the princes are too smart to tackle the Baron, and I don't think the tiranoc gave the horsemen another shot (maybe HC was in the way?). Lions stay without 2" of their woods, though their flank is now less than 2" ... Magic mainly goes into a SotF on the chaos lord, which four-dices through into IF (his second of the game, for no miscasts), completely overloading the collar and doing 9 hits = 9 wounds = 7 failed wards. 365 points of god-killing power vaporizes, and so does my desire to run a chaos lord any more. Time to up gun: level 4, you're in from here on out, I've been good and avoided bringing nukes so far, but Mr. Demo-Horse isn't working. Back to the game, the remaining horsemen are shot a lot, and the 'stars absorb all firepower.

Turn 4 - Warriors of Tzeentch
-----------------------------

OMG TIME TO FIGHT?! Not quite: the rapture star fails its fakking fear test and can't carge the PG right in front of them. I take my anger out on my dice, but then am gratified by the hellcannon flanking the white lions through the woods - something is going to die, dammit. Warstar is out on the spears, so stomps up to stare it in the face, and the ogres spin to intercept the chariot. In FIGHT LAND, the hellcannon takes a wound and eats a woodself or two, losing combat but whatever.

Turn 4 - High Elves
-------------------

More cageyness, more shooting. The ogres are cursed and then pincushioned with arrows, leaving one with one wound. 'Stars continue to absorb fire, possible losing a few from the warstar and one from the rapturestar. There is more fighting between HC & WL, with more wounds put on Ms. Nibbles and more dead elves.

Turn 5 - Warriors of Tzeentch
-----------------------------

The rapturestar gets over its irrational fear of mute elves and slams the phoenix guard, while the warstar docks with ~10 points of spearelves. Both units vaporize, sending rapture into the mid bolter and war just sailing past the NE bolter - all panic checks are passed, naturally. In a continuing display of good luck, Ms. Nibbles is dropped in 3 rounds of combat with just 2 white lions, though her dwarfs admirably kill another couple elves to bring the unit below half! Sadly they break, but are not caught. Oh, and the last ogre gets away from the chariot's range, to outside of the DP's as well.

Turn 5 - High Elves
-------------------

White lions push the hellcannon crew into the building, destroying them and netting big points, and other movement involves sandwiching the last ogre between chariot & cav and aiming some archmage at the warstar. Magic tickles the warstar - he refused to try for a 3rd or 4th casting of SotF, as 4+ turns with no miscasts is unheard of for him / me - and shooting slammed it a bit more. The last ogre amazingly survived all the fire directed his way. In combat, the bolter is detonated by Duke von Dook, the BSB.

Turn 6 - Warriors of Tzeentch
-----------------------------

The dragon princes are surprised to find the last ogre within charge range, but hold against his charge anyway. Annnd the 'stars turn to face squishy elves, but this thing is over. The final ogre is killed by ASF-ing princes, his chaos armor utterly failing him.

Turn 6 - High Elves
-------------------

DPs claim a quarter, but no need to move otherwise. Minimal magic and available fire goes into the warstar, dropping it below half.

With that, an anger-inducing game came to a close. I was pretty much ready to quite fantasy at some point, things were just so fakking terrible. Instead, I'm simply going to accept that as a Tzeentch player playing a Tzeentch army with only Tzeentch marks, I shouldn't feel bad at all about running a gateway-happy level 4. So next time: BIG BADDA BOOM!

TIZZ LOSS (3-17)

*For those keeping track at home, this was my worst loss in the league since the 500 pointer closing game vs these same HE, when I went 0-20. When avoidance + magic + shooting all work it's absolutely infuriatingly brutal for us chaos ground-pounders.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://dreadtasm.blogspot.com/2010/04/wot-vs-he-2250-league-ender-2-of-4.html' title='+ The hellcannon takes the one and only shot I wanted - down the line into those KotR, looking to panic them off the board. A short guess nabs both the yeomen and the knights, sending them both off the board. Fat and happy, Ms. Nibbles considers her work done already.

Turn 1 - Brettonians
--------------------

Brutally demoralized, the brets shoulder on, with some lance movement to the west and the pegs mobilzing east. The treb scatters a hearty 10" off one of the 'stars, and the archer blob drops a single horseman.

Turn 2 - Warriors of Tzeentch
------------------------------------

Main action comes from the horsemen charging into the blob, taking no wounds on the stand-and-shoot. The other horsemen head around to send help next turn, while the Pimp continues hiding from the pegs and the drogres tempt the pegs with a charge, backed up by the heckcannon. The ogres meanwhile consign themselves to their fate and angle to send the errants off the board and bye some time for the rapturestar's rear. No magic, no shooting, just fighting: the horsemen drop some blob members, lose one in return and tie on musicians.

Turn 2 - Brettonians
--------------------

The western errants slam the ogres as expected, and here I note my only hope is to have the monster-killer paladin fluff so I can club him to death - WAIT FOR IT! The pegs totally surprise me (!) by flanking the horsemen battling the blob. With a brief intermission for the treb to misfire (misses the next turn of firing), it's back to killing. The left paladin completely fluffs (!!), and the errants do just two wounds on the ogres. In return two of them reduce the paladin to pulp (!!!), then happily break and are run down. The errants stay on the table with a very short pursuit. The pegs meanwhile do their best to fluff completely, but two horsemen are dragged down for the loss of a couple more archers. The horseman breaks and is only pursued by the peasants, getting them out of the other horsemen's arc.

Turn 3 - Warriors of Tzeentch
------------------------------------

Feeling overly confident, the Baron White leaves his warstar and powers his demo-pony over to lock the errants down and/or pulp their skulls. The Duke shifts over in his unit to give the lord a reroll just in case ... While the Pimp hops into the bret line to finally yell at somebody. The remaining horsemen redeploy yet again, while the drogres prepare to see what 231 points worth of S7 can do. I for one have no faith in them ... But the Pimp in the meantime roars at the grails + BSB and kills the three (!!) knights from the rear of the unit. Whoa.

Turn 3 - Brettonians
--------------------

And with the game a third gone, it's time to commit - the lord's errants and the BSB's grails slam the warstar, the unit that will actually break if they can put the pressure on hard enough. The pegs meanwhile easily pass fear and charge the drogres, while the other errants turn to face the incoming lord and the M@A move up to expose the disc to some blob loving. Which does nothing. Fighting: pegs open by stabbing / trampling the drogres for three wounds, to take three in return and win on musician. Showing how awesome they are, the musician-less drogres blow their test (and the BSB had moved to 15" away in order to cover for the lord) and flee a few inches, to be caught by a min-flee from the pegs. Much frustration at drogres. In the Main Event, four warriors are beaten down in the storm of lances and hooves, while maybe a knight or something died. The warriors lose by four and break twice, easily being caught. Much sadness at warstar detonation.

Turn 4 - Warriors of Tzeentch
------------------------------------

Note: I got so carried away with the hellcannon charging the M@A that I forgot to roll for her rampage test - it turned out that she DID rampage and would have pounched on the grails or the pegs and actually done something. Instead she got tossed into a load of smelly peasants. Elsewhere the Baron charges those errants and the other horsemen crack knuckles and prepare for vengeance. The rapturestar turns and shuffles to descend upon some grails, while the sorcerer zips down to help with the yelling. Which goes off, but neither a 7 S2 flicker (...) or a 6 roar (...) amount to anything. In the round that matters, the horsemen actually kill the last pegs (!!), Ms. Nibbles noms some peasants, and the Baron, despite S6 killing blow, nets just the errant champ. He loses but holds.

Note! Those 'Men-at-Arms' are in fact a grail reliquae! I only just remembered, so you can just insert "GR" on that "MA" block and pretend. That's how they're holding up so well, wards absorbed all but 1-2 wounds a turn.

Turn 4 - Brettonians
--------------------

The general and BSB's lances try to drag themselves away from the rapturestar's vengeful reach, and that's all for moving. The treb scatters a big 8" off the rapturestar, and the blob doesn't dent the Pimp (or the horsemen, whatever was shot). The lord once more smashed down an impressive two knights and held no prob. The errants expanded frontage to get more horses in (knights too but they never hit).

Turn 5 - Warriors of Tzeentch
------------------------------------

The rapture boys reach out and just make the grail remnants, and the Pimp zips over to try his luck against the treb. Flicker smashes two wounds on the machine and drops a peasant, but the roar is ineffectual. In combat the grails are crushed but the BSB escapes. The star holds so as to not enter the lord's arc. The mighty chaos lord smashes another errant and holds @ -2.

Turn 5 - Brettonians
--------------------

The BSB rallies, and on to shooting - the treb scattered 10" off the horsemen right for their own BSB (Tzeentch FTW!) while the blob failed to hurt the Pimp again. The mighty might of the 360 point chaos lord dropped one errant, but he held @ -2 again.

AND J had assured me this was turn six and game. I felt like there was more to go, and I honestly can't think of anything in this report that I'm combining together, unless there was another turn of him jockeying for position involved before commiting. Except then the pegs would have caused me more anxiety, and the Pimp would have likewise gotten to explode some more knight heads.

Regardless, what started out as an apocalypse for the brets turned into a chaos fail-fest as all the chaos power hitters were absorbed by my mediocre dice and his hot bret ward saves, which were nearly never made on the eevil side (literally 0-1 'tizz six' ward saves were made). Also, units on the central hill didn't count as being in any table quarter for claiming table quarters. Additionally all hills counted as large targets for drawing LOS through them.

Dark elves deployed the level 4 in the long xbow line, the level 2 in the spears, a death hag in the witch elf block, and the other death hag (the general) with her cauldron. Assassins are hidden in the witch elves and the shades. Ogres formed the mini-star with tyrant and butcher joining the big bulls, and the other butcher joined the guneaters for some extra firepower. And of course the wyrdstone necklace put a wound on the tyrant.

Turn 1 - Tribe Farcrag
----------------------

Ogres push forward, hunter passes stupidity (and does every turn), trappers weren't doing anything but grabbing that hill late game so bicker didn't matter. Magic put trollguts on the bull-star and the leadbelchers, and 2 bonecrunchers + bangstick killed 1 of the xbow elves that the level 4 was hanging out in. D realized at this point that I was going to put everything into that unit ... The guneaters unloaded and dropped a couple more elves there, but no panic test required yet. Hunter took his first snipe of the game: 4+ to tag the death hag in the witch block, she failed her Look Out Sir! save, was easily wounded ... and took 1 wound on the D3.

Turn 1 - Softy Khainite Dark Elves
----------------------------------

Dark elves mobilized to mess with the ogres, either marchblocking & screening with harpies or denying bull charge with the witch elves. Magic had real potential with 8 + 4 power dice with the black staff, but turned out ok for the fatties. The level 4's WS missile spell was dispelled, soul stealer was let go (he was clearly out of range of the 4 ironguts), and he miscast on the basic magic missile, taking a wound in the process. The level 2 killed a bull from the 3 bull unit. Shooting put some wounds on both units of ironguts, but no dead fatties. The slave giant was also hammered by the right xbows and took 4 wounds, but was apparently within short range (read: charge range) of the corner of the unit! He forgot to buff with the cauldron, but would remember from here on out.

Turn 2 - Tribe Farcrag
----------------------

D had set up crossfires with his harpies, so my belchers and hunter shoved the birdwomen and he learned how to better use the ladies ... The bull-star charged the witches, the right ironguts the shades, and the slave giant the xbows on the hill - who passed terror and put another wound on the big guy on the way in. Magic put trollguts on the guneaters + butcher, and bangstick reduced the level 4's xbows to 3 + him. Shooting from the guneaters pounded the unit, and randomized the two shots onto the level 4 that I needed to take him out. Another two shots killed elves, and the last man broke and ran.

In the main combat the tyrant challenged and was met by the assassin, but the 3 wounds the elf got through were absorbed by wyrdstone + regen. He yielded 3CR when the siegebreaker fell on him ... The butcher mashed a few chicks with his shiny S5 club, and the 2 bulls in the front rank targeted the wounded death hag and pulped her. The witch hag couldn't cut through the blubber and the unit lost by 2, was out-numbered by fear-causers, broke and was caught with a speedy 11" ogre pursuit. The slave giant yelled at the xbows and broke them, again pursuing a healthy 11" and catching them. The ironguts faired less well, taking 4 wounds from their assassin (2 ogres worth with xbow wounds), fluffing the 3 return attaks and being carved by the shades.

Turn 2 - Softy Khainite Dark Elves
----------------------------------

After much weighing of the odds, the spears w/ sorceress flanked the bull-star, while the other evil elves maneuvered for later turns. The sorceress miscast steal soul and lost a level and a wound. The cauldron put +1A on the flanking spears. In combat, the tyrant pulped the elf champion, but 8 S3 elf attaks turned into a dead bull (total regen flop) and the star needing a 3 to stay. A 4 was rerolled with fistful into a 10, and the star was run down.

Turn 3 - Tribe Farcrag
----------------------

Ogres mobilize to mostly shoot things now and charge things later, with the giant cowering behing the large target hill. The magic phase brought the ogre miscast of the game, and my last butcher took a wound and stopped behing a wizard. His friends with guns felt his pain and opened up on the corsairs, the belchers killing 5 and the guneaters another 3. The hunter attempted his second snipe of the game, but the sorceress was pushed out of the way and 3 spear elves died instead.

Turn 3 - Softy Khainite Dark Elves
----------------------------------

Corsairs charged the belchers, who fled. Shades mounted the hill, and would go on to kill the slave giant - I actually asked him to roll the assassin first, and his 2 shots took care of the beast. The spears got in the bulls' face, and the sorceress miscast again with doombolt, losing another level and her last wound.

Turn 4 - Tribe Farcrag
----------------------

Guneaters charge the corsairs, belchers fail to rally and will get one more chance, trappers take my hill, hunter stands on the central one (despite being too small to claim it), and the bulls conga line out of the way of the ironguts, while also baiting the spears with a rear charge that would expose their flank to the guts. No magic, no shooting, but lots of killing. The corsairs almost disappeared under the guneaters impacts + 15 attaks, but the last couple failed their insane courage and were caught.

Turn 4 - Softy Khainite Dark Elves
----------------------------------

Spears denied the bull charge, the cauldron was dragged clear of the woods and the assassin was on his way to cause mischief. The bound steed was easily dispelled, and the shades took potshots at the 2 bulls to no avail.

Turn 5 - Tribe Farcrag
----------------------

Belchers rallied and reloaded, but they and the guneaters were effectively out of the game. The guts charged the spears, and would trash the unit and run it down. The hunter took his third snipe: 3+ to hit the cauldron, 5+ to hit the crew, 5+ to randomize onto the death hag, 2+ to wound her, she failed her 4+ ward, and then took ... 1 wound on the D3. But still an amazing shot!

Turn 5 - Softy Khainite Dark Elves
----------------------------------

Cauldron climbed the hill and the assassin kept on running. The shades put some wounds on the 2 bulls.

Turn 6 - Tribe Farcrag
----------------------

The guts make the hill, claiming it for now with their hearty US12, the belchers try for another quarter but fall short, and the bulls contest the shades' corner and pester them from shooting the guts. The hunter makes his fourth snipe: 5+ to hit the assassin, 2+ to wound equals ... 1 wound on the D3!

Turn 6 - Softy Khainite Dark Elves
----------------------------------

The assassin pulls off his run and joins the cauldron, bringing it to US5 and robbing me of +2 BP. The shades finish off a bull and keep their quarter.

Game ends major victory to the ogres, +1 BP each for our hills gave us 18 - 4 BP.

+ A New History of Violence +

With the popularity of my Warriors of Tzeentch battle log on Dakka, and the sexiness that is Battle Chronicler, I thought I would see about combining the two into a shiny new blog that cuts right to the combat and doesn't pretend to be about anything else.

Part of this might depend on getting the BC xml to upload directly into blogspot, so we'll see if this all turns out to be a bust!
